There are a lot of New Years nay-sayers out there and frankly I’m not having any of it. People say it’s always a let down and there’s never really anything to do but I’m not in this camp. New Years is a fresh start kicked off with a party, even if it’s not the best one you’ve ever been to. With a new year comes a new CFL season and there is a lot to get excited about! Here are 15 things CFL fans can look forward to in 2015

 1) Cornish repeat?

Jon Cornish has won the CFL’s top Canadian Player award the last three seasons. Will he make it 4 in a row in 2015? Will be win the rushing title for a fourth time as well?

2) The 2015 Grey Cup

If you didn’t already know the 2015 Grey Cup will be on November 29 in Winnipeg. Kind of a big deal and something ALL CFL fans must be looking forward to.

3) 2016?

Who will host the Grey Cup in 2016? We don’t know yet but we will find out this year….

4) Will it be a three-peat for Hamilton?

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have made it to the Grey Cup the last two seasons losing the Riders in 2013 and the Stamps in 2014. Will they win the East for the 3rd consecutive time?

5) A new Commish

The CFL will welcome a new commissioner this year and with the search underway we can expect an announcement regarding the next commissioner this spring.

Ottawa REDBLACKS fans made a statement as the team sold out every home game in 2014. How many will they sellout in 2015?

7) Jeff Tedford in BC

The BC Lions recently named Jeff Tedford the teams 25th head coach in team history.

8) Anthony Calvillo is back!

He’s back but this time he’ll be on the sidelines in Montreal. Calvillo will ditch the intern tag to become Coach Anthony as an ‘offensive coach’ this season.

9) Draft Day

Offensive lineman Brett Boyko is slated top spot right now but who will be picked first in the CFL draft this year?

10) Mosaic Stadium Progress

Although it won’t be football ready until the 2017 season, following the build of a new stadium is exciting and something Rider fans are no doubt looking forward to in 2015.

11) Quarterbacks

This season we get to watch the younger QBs in the league continue to develop, guys like Jonathan Crompton, Zach Collaros, Drew Willy, Bo Levi Mitchell

12) Rookie of the year

Choose a few guys to follow at camp all the way through their rookie season and see which players assert themselves as a force in the league. Dexter McCoil 2014 CFL rookie of the year- pretty fun to watch.

13) CFL Twitter Wars

I see you Toronto Argonauts! The Snap has been following these Twitter wars between CFL teams. If 2014 was any indication there’s a lot to get excited about when teams throw down twitter style.

14) The Swayze Waters Safari

He was 2014’s Most Outstanding Special Teams Player but Argos fans and CF fans alike got to follow the adventures of Waters on social media. And what about that lucky goat? More to come in 2015?

15) What will the Riders Store come up with next?

What have they got in store for fans this season?

Have a wonderful New Years!

  1. Thanks for the great article. I cannot wait for 2015. Always exciting for the new season to start and see what new stories transpire through the season. Can’t wait to see Cornish win his 5th Canadian and 2nd MVP. Go Stamps – repeat necessary
