Prior to their game against the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at BMO Field on Sunday, September 11, the Toronto Argonauts are excited to honour more than 20 Olympians who represented Canada at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
Headlining the list of Olympians attending Sunday’s game is four-time medalist Penny Oleksiak, who will perform the ceremonial coin toss prior to kickoff.
“We are thrilled to host so many of our Olympians this Sunday at our game against the Ticats,” said Michael Copeland, the Argos President and CEO. “Recognizing the men and women who so proudly represented our country in Rio, and in turn have given so much to our community, is a great honour.”
During Rio 2016, Oleksiak became the first Canadian athlete to win four medals at one summer Games as well as the country’s youngest ever Olympic champion, with a gold in the 100m freestyle, silver in the 100m butterfly, and two bronze in the women’s 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relays.
Each Olympian will be introduced and welcomed onto the field where they will stand for the singing of our national anthem. The athletes will then be hosted in a suite for the game.
