“I consulted with the CFL, eLUXE, sports journalists, CFL players, players wives, fans, graphic designers and cheerleaders to come up with my final design,” she posted on her site He Suits, He Scores. “As people who are passionate about Canadian football – regardless of what team we cheer for – there is undoubtedly a uniting national bond among all Canadian Football fans!”
Sovani is among a special set of women who were asked to create a one-of-a-kind lineup of wares that women can wear to watch football games, including the Grey Cup. The 32-year-old designed a clever grey and maroon sweatshirt ($75) that’s a play on the phrase, “I love Canadian football.”
“I am a huge sports fan – and I’m not crazy about a lot of female fan gear,” she told The Luxe Life. “So I also made sure it’s something I really wanted to wear, and since I’m crazy about the Varsity look I tried to really let that aesthetic into my design.”
For her, the best part of the #MyGreyCup line is it gives women the opportunity to wear sports stuff that isn’t cheesy.
“It’s awesome to hear that sports apparel is making its way to fashion websites. For years I would buy men’s apparel and sew it to fit me – I don’t even own a sewing machine!”
“I really hope CFL fans dig my design and buy it for themselves, their wives, their girlfriends, their sisters . . . I want everyone to wear it!”
