The Edmonton Eskimos welcome Rio Olympians Jen Kish and Stephanie Labbé tomorrow, Friday, August 26, for a pre-game autograph session in Brickley’s Knothole Corner (inside Gate 2). The rugby and soccer bronze medalists will sign autographs from 7:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. ahead of the Eskimos and Roughriders matchup.
Kish was born in Ottawa but grew up in Edmonton, playing football for the MIllwoods Grizzlies. She is widely regarded as one of the best female sevens players in the world. Kish captained Canada’s Women’s Sevens Team for the sport’s Olympic debut in Rio as they went 4-2 overall. Kish recorded one try during the tournament. The Canadians defeated Great Britain 33-10 to win the Olympic bronze.
Labbé has been a goalkeeper for Canada’s national soccer program since 2002. The native of Stony Plain, Alberta started and played full games in five of Canada’s six matches in Rio. She allowed just four goals all tournament, including two shutouts against Australia in the group stage and in the quarterfinals against France. The team defeated Brazil 2-1 to win the bronze medal and be the first Canadian team since 1908 to stand on the podium in consecutive Summer Olympics.
Congratulations Jen and Stephanie, way to make Canada proud!
