McKenna a Jack of All Trades!

By Sarah Kelsey

Kate McKenna is one busy lady. She’s a segment producer for CTV’s The Social, an on-air personality for TSN’s CFL pre-game show and now, she’s a fashion designer two times over courtesy of the CFL/eLUXE #MyGreyCup collection.

“My designs were guided by two very basic things: comfort and style,” she told The Snap.

“I know some people adhere to the whole “pain is beauty” mantra, but I am not one of them!”

It’s one of the many reasons, we have to say, we have a bit of a girl crush on McKenna. She gets that women want to have some wardrobe options to wear to the big game that aren’t limited to tight tees or oversized jerseys.

Sarah Kelsey is a freelance lifestyle writer, editor and spokesperson based in Toronto. Her work has been featured in some of North America’s top publications — including ELLE, The Toronto Star, AOL/The Huffington Post Canada’s StyleList, Style and Living sites, BlogTO and TC Media.

“Both of these pieces are comfortable enough to wear for the duration of a CFL game and stylish enough to standout, at the stadium or elsewhere,” she adds. “I love the simplicity of the sweatshirt, with the “GC” on the front reminding me of old-school varsity style jacket lettering. With the shawl, I wanted something really trendy and that pattern and those colours seem to be everywhere right now.”

On top of her current gig, McKenna has worked with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats and also hopped aboard the Grey Cup 100 cross-Canada train back in 2012. Though she loves being in the heart of the CFL action, she says she loves watching football from the comfort of her own home.

“This is going to make me sound extremely anti-social, but I like watching [a game] solo or with one or two people who are equally as interested in watching it. I’m a sucker for good storylines and quirky stats, so I really value hearing what the commentators in the booth and the reporter on the sideline are saying.”

Her only exception is, of course, Grey Cup Sunday. “Everyone turns into a huge CFL fan that day… plus Grey Cup parties usually include really, really good food.”

What kind of excitement does she expect we’ll see from the 102nd match on October 30? She told TheLuxeLife.com:

“Lots! If you’ve ever been to a Grey Cup you know that the city it’s in is basically transformed and Vancouver is already such a phenomenal city on its own. Between this collection and Imagine Dragons performing at halftime, my gut says it’s going to be a very cool week of parties, concerts and events leading up to the biggest game in Canadian football.”
