Sights, Sounds & Social: WEEK 1 of the CFL SEASON

Sights Sounds and Social Week 1

Lighting Delays, Ruthless Trolling and Wally’s Back… Week 1 in the CFL

Week 1 of #CFLKickoff did not disappoint and with plenty to discus, lets get right into it:

I would be re-missed not to mention the Toronto Argos historic home opener at BMO Field. However, it was too monumental not to receive its own post: Sights, Sounds and Social: ARGOS Home Opener.

Following the Argos – Ticats game on Thursday, we had the Bombers and Als Friday. The Bombers 2016 campaign and Weston Dressler’s debut did not get off to the start that they would have hoped. Approximately 6 minutes into the game, it appeared as if the apocalypse had made its way to Investor’s Group Field…

These angry skies brought about some lightning and a 1 hour delay to the game. Just prior to this impending forecast, the Bombers had already received some less then stellar news. One of the Bombers prized off-season acquisitions, Weston Dressler went down.  Dressler left the game and did not return.

A game was indeed played Friday night and the Bombers eventually fell to the Als 22-14. However, it was not all gloom and doom for the Bombers. Some off the field excitement came from former Bombers Alex Suber, Jonathan Hefney and Clinton Kent AKA Swaggerville as they took over the Bombers Snapchat feed.

On Saturday, two more #CFLKickoff games were slated. The first game pitted a #GreyCup Rematch as the Eskimos hosted the REDBLACKS. However, it would  be a fair statement to say that the Eskys weren’t exactly welcoming of their visitors. The Eskimos taunting was out in full effect prior to kickoff as “2015 Grey Cup participation” ribbons were handed out to REDBLACK supporters.

This gesture must’ve fueled the REDBLACKS offense as they could not be stopped all day. Although, 2015 MOP Henry Burris had to leave the game with a finger injury, the REDBLACKS QB play did not suffer. Off season acquisition and insurance policy Trevor Harris stepped in and well… actions speak louder then words:

The Eskimos did held a narrow 3 point margin with under a minute left, but Chris Milo’s 55 yard clutch FG sent the game to OT. In the end, the REDBLACKS came away with the victory and certainly had the last laugh.

The #CFLKickoff finale featured the Stamps and “new look” BC Lions. The first thing that fans noticed was the amazing looking BC unis and helmets.

After fans shifted their attention from this new BC Look to the sidelines, they saw a familiar face. Saturday marked Wally Buono’s return to the helm as Head Coach of the Lions.

It was a sweet return for Buono as his club was able to hold off the Stamps and start their season off on the right foot.

These were just some of the sights, sounds and social posts from Week 1… oh ya, and the Riders remained undefeated…
