It’s #NationalHotDogDay and we want to help you prepare your menu for Friday’s CFL double-header! We’re bringing back the Tasty Tailgate Showdown — who do you think will win?!

Toronto Argonauts St. Lawrence Dog

As a menu option in all of Toronto’s sport complexes, and one of the most popular items to order in the popular downtown St. Lawrence Market, peameal bacon is a solid staple in the city. When paired with a grilled dog, it’s sure to be an Argos game-day hit!

Ingredients

  • 6 hot dogs
  • 6 buns
  • 6-10 slices of peameal bacon
  • Hot Sauce
  • Mustard

Directions

  1. Brown the hot dogs in a skillet over medium heat, or on the grill, until cooked through and browned on all sides
  2. Cut the peameal bacon into long strips, and brown in a skillet over medium heat, or on the grill, until cooked through and edges have crisped
  3. Before removing from heat, lightly toss peameal in hot sauce, and fry for an additional minute
  4. Add hot dog to opened buns with light mustard, and add sliced peameal on top

BC Lions Seadog

The most popular hot dog option in Vancouver is the Japadog, which offers a Japanese twist to regular hot dogs. The ever-growing franchise offers many options on their menu, so there’s something to suit everyone’s taste. We’ve made a simple at-home alternative, perfect for Lions gameday!

Ingredients

  • 6 hot dogs
  • 6 buns
  • ½ cup dry arame seaweed (it expands when prepared)
  • 2 tbsp toasted sesame seeds
  • Japanese Mayonaise (Kewpie Mayo)
  • Teriyaki sauce

Directions

  1. In a heatproof bowl, pour ¾ cup of boiling water over the dry arame. Mix, cover, and allow to sit for up to 15 minutes, or until the arame is soft. As it retains the water, it will appear to double in size, so use an appropriately sized bowl. Strain, and set aside
  2. Brown the hot dogs in a skillet over medium heat, or on the grill, until cooked through and browned on all sides
  3. Mix the strained arame with sesame seeds
  4. Add the hot dog to the bun, and drizzle with Kewpie and Teriyaki sauce
  5. Add arame on top, and garnish as lightly or heavily as prefered
